Immigration Reform

I agree with Ruben Navarrette on his editorial from Immigration Reform from Ruben Navarrette on CNN.com stating that Rahm Emanuel and the Obama Administration don't seem to be doing what they promised on the issue of immigration. In fact they haven't once brought it up in a while. They seem to be far too busy with their healthcare bill to deal with anything else.

With the issues we deal with on the border only getting worse as time goes on, like the Falcon Lake incident that just happened on October 3rd. This Administration still hasn't brought up anything on border security or what their plans are on this increasingly dangerous subject.
Ruben goes on to say that instead, Rahm has declared immigration the new "third rail" in politics. He is trying very hard to stay away from the subject, so hard that "Capitol Hill newspapers reported shouting matches between Emanuel and members of the Democratic-controlled Congressional Hispanic Caucus, who failed to get leaders of their party to tackle the issue." (Ruben Navarrette)

The part that I'm not so sure I agree with is when he goes on to say that Rahm Emanuel isn't fully to blame, that Obama himself betrayed everyone who believed the Administration would fix our problems. If Rahm Emanuel is Obama's man on this issue and is attempting to stay away from the issue, then theres not much else president Obama can do on the issue. How can he come out and publicly speak about an issue that he would only be able to see on the news? An issue that has never been brought to his full attention and therefor isn't fully aware of.

The fact of the matter is that some of Mr. Ruben Navarrette's opinions are just too far out there and too close to conspiracy theory. I do agree with most of the things he says throughout this editorial but the end is just a little too far out there for me to believe.

news article

Money is being wasted by the department of education says this article http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/09/30/coburn-report-shows-billions-spent-education-budget-pork/ from FoxNews.com. In a study by Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn, he found that taxpayer dollars that are intended to go toward education is being wasted by the schools getting the grants or not being spent on education whatsoever. The Department of Education has many funds for better schooling and has spent more than $2.3 billion in the last ten years. It is very disappointing to see where that money is actually going because more often than not, the money wasn’t given to the people who need it the most.
The money goes to schools, but it seems that it goes toward programs that there really is no need for; especially when our country is in such hard economical times. According to Coburn’s study, “A Las Vegas school district received a $25,000 earmark in 2005 for a mariachi music program, Lawmakers secured $273,000 for a program in Blue Springs, Montana, aimed at fighting Goth culture.” Some money didn’t even go toward education or schools at all; $2.7 million went to zoos across the nation.
It is very disheartening to see our hard earned tax dollars being spent on things like this when there is so much other need for it. Like nicer facilities and newer technology for schools that can’t afford it; or initiative for teachers to get they’re masters degree so they can teach there kids better and a trickle down effect can start with the teachers. There are many ways to use the money and the department of education needs to prioritize they’re earmarks.
